A Basic Look at Transformations

Audience: Preservice teachers of grades 6 - 12

Expected time: 60 minutes

Overview of Module: Students will explore transformations of the plane and concepts common to all transformations. Transformations will be investigated geometrically (with the location of image points).

Activities:

Activity #0 Basic Transformations
Activity #1 Transformations on the Coordinate Plane

Goals:

Students recognize transformations: reflections, rotations, and translations.
Students perform geometric transformations with a variety of technologies.

Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP) or other dynamic geometry software.
Basic background knowledge of flips, turns, and slides
