Division Module

Overview of Module Students will explore two different models for division and how they those models are represented in manipulating base 10 blocks and in performing algorithms for long division.

Goals:

  • Students understand and use different models for division.
  • Students relate models of division to manipulation of base 10 blocks.
  • Students see the relationship between manipulation of base 10 blocks and the standard long division algorithm.
  • Students use calculators to analyze remainders in division and see limitations of calculator in division problems.

Mathematical Concepts:

  • Division
  • Place value
  • Representation of place value
  • Long division algorithm
